Marwan Maru

“It just takes one step to walk over a long distance, every single step and every single person’s effort is needed.”

Who Am I?

My name is Marwan Maru and I am a husband, engineer, immigrant and volunteer.

Like many others, I worked very hard to be who I am today and to have the education I have received. I have seen how difficult it can be when you belong to a marginalized society due to your socioeconomic status and I want others to receive the resources they need to succeed.

My Volunteer Position

I am currently focused on working with youth to help improve their mathematic and scientific knowledge, as well as critical thinking skills. Helping children and youth with these aspects in their lives will help them to be more successful in the future and will impact their academic development-overall helping them grow and make a difference.

How My Education and Experiences Help Others

My background in engineering and my experiences as an immigrant have helped me to contribute more than I could have without them. I am able to teach coding classes to kids and help them to expand not only their minds but future possibilities.

Do I Feel Like I Make a Difference?

When I first started to volunteer, I was scared that it would take too much of my time but when I got started, I saw the difference I made and it was rewarding. Sometimes it takes time but knowing the difference it makes in the lives of these kids. I would do it over and over and over again.

What Hakili Does For Me

It gives me hope. Hope that this issue regarding marginalized communities is not hopeless, there are people who are working and doing something to make a difference. It gives me a sense of purpose to be part of an organization and movement that shares my same values and vision

What Hakili Can Do for You

Everyone has a different perspective about their time and how they spend it. But it is rewarding and there is a lot of joy that comes from volunteering. It really does not take a lot of time, especially when you’re doing it online through zoom

Everyone can make a difference by contributing a little bit in a small area, anyone can make an impact. It just takes one step to walk a long distance, every single step and every single person’s effort is needed.
